He created the ABC TV comedy shows\u00a0Lawrence Leung\u2019s Unbelievable<\/a> <\/strong><\/em>and the AFI Award-nominated\u00a0Choose Your Own Adventure <\/strong><\/em>and co-wrote and starred in ABC2’s action\/comedy series\u00a0Maximum Choppage<\/a><\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0He has written an episode of The Family Law<\/a> <\/em><\/strong>(SBS2), penned pranks for The Chasers War on Everything<\/strong> (ABC1), presented segments for The Feed<\/a><\/strong> (SBS2) and played a sleazy nerd in Jane Campion’s\u00a0Top of The Lake \u2013 China Girl<\/em><\/strong> <\/a>and an awkward nerd in Ten\u2019s Offspring<\/a><\/strong> as series regular Dr Elvis. Recently he presented ABC Catalyst’s SLEEP MATTERS<\/a> documentary on the science of sleep.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n His unique comedy covers both personal and fascinating topics \u2013 everything from the pitfalls of growing up to ghosthunting in Scottish castles, from break-ups to breakdancing, from poker cheating to seeking out jetpack inventors. His original one-man shows have been favourites at theatres and festivals around the world, including the Edinburgh Fringe, London’s Soho Theatre and the Sydney Opera House.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n His show Lawrence Leung Learns To Breakdance <\/strong>won an Age Critics Award at the 2007 Melbourne International Comedy Festival and the 2008 Best Australian Act at the Sydney Comedy Festival. He was also a recipient (with Andrew McClelland) of the Sydney Comedy Festival\u2019s 2009 Jury Award for their show Time Ninjas<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Lawrence’s debut show\u00a0Sucker <\/strong>(Best Solo Show Award, Melbourne Fringe)\u00a0was adapted into the AWGIE-nominated feature film Sucker <\/strong><\/em><\/a>starring veteran British actor Timothy Spall. The screenplay was shortlisted for the 2017 NSW Premier’s Literary Award<\/a>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n As a science communicator, Lawrence is fascinated with the psychology of belief, deception and why people believe weird things. He has lectured at science conventions, universities,\u00a0Splendour In The Grass<\/a>,\u00a0\u00a0The School of Life <\/a>and has designed illusions for stage and screen. His solo show\u00a0Very Strange Things<\/a><\/strong> examines the techniques of fraudulent psychics and received the 2017 MMF Directors\u2019 Choice Award and was nominated for the 2018 Fringe World – Best Comedy Award. He\u2019s been the MC for Skepticon Australia and the Global Athiest Convention and has interviewed science advocates such as James Randi, Paul Davies and Bill Nye The Science Guy.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
